Paper Lanterns
Quick, easy, and colorful! These latterns are easy enough for young children, and pretty enough for older children. Make a bunch and use them to decorate a room or a patio.
You will need:
1. Colored paper (Construction paper works well.)
2. Scissors
3. Tape, glue, or staples
4. Ruler (If you want to be precise.)
Step 1. From the long end of your paper, cut a strip of paper about 1 inch wide. You will use this to make the handle on the lattern.
Step 2. Fold the large piece of paper in half lengthwise.
Step 3. Starting on the folded side, make a cut about 1 inch wide up the paper. Leave about 1 inch uncut at the top.
Step 4. Continue making cuts until the entire length of paper is cut. It you have piece that sticks out at the end, trim it off.
Step 5. Open the paper. Fold the short ends around, forming a circle. Tape, staple, or glue the ends together. Glue doesn't show, but tape will be the easiest to use.
Step 6. Fasten on the handle.
To "light" your lantern, set or hang a small party light inside, and enjoy the warm glow!
