Crocheted Mittens

These tiny mittens are a quick, easy, and fun winter crochet project.  Only about an inch long, they are adorable hanging on a tree, but you can also pin them to hats and jackets, use them as present toppers, or hook them to keychains.  If you like the pattern, you can try other color combinations or even make bigger mittens by using yarn and a larger hook.


You will need:

1.  Red cotton thread

2.  White cotton thread

3.  A 2.75 mm crochet hook

Step 1.  Make the palm of the mitten.

Rd. 1.  Ch. 2.  Make six single crochet into the second chain from the hook to form a circle.  Join with a slip stitch.

Rd. 2. Ch 1.  Make single crochet into each stitch all the way around.  Join with a slip stitch.


Step 2.  Make the thumb, tip, and wrist.

Rd. 3. (To make the thumb) Ch. 3.  Single crochet into the second chain from the hook.  Single crochet into the next chain.  Slip stitch into the next stitch on the circle.

(To make the top of the mitten) Ch. 1.  Single crochet in the next stitch.  Ch 1.  Half double crochet in the next stitch.  Ch 1. double crochet in the next stitch. Ch. 1.  Half double crochet into the next stitch.  Ch. 1 single crochet into the next stitch.  Ch. 1. Slip stitch in the next two stitches.

(To make the wrist) Ch. 1. Single crochet into the next four stitches.  Tie off the red and tie on the white.

Step 3.  Add the trim.

Rd. 4.  (Adding the white trim to the wrist.) Chain 1. Turn.  Work two single crochet stitches into the next 4 stitches.  Tie off and weave in the ends.


Step 4.  Finish the mittens.

Make a second mitten.  Tie them together with a loop of string or ribbon and hang them on your tree!
